The rest of this article will discuss topics related to the Jolo chip, like whether or not Jolo chips are the hottest chips in the world, their taste, and what happens after eating Jolo Chips. Read on to learn more about these extra hot snacks.

Are Jolo Chips the Hottest Chips in the World?

Jolo brags about the intense heat packed into every chip, but are they the hottest chips in the world?

Jolo Chips are not the hottest chips in the world, even though they’re made using the spiciest peppers. While they are advertised as the world’s hottest chips, the Paqui Carolina Reaper is actually the hottest chip in the world.

So, while Jolo Chips may not be the hottest in the world, there’s no denying the intense spiciness this chip imparts to those brave enough to taste it. In fact, Jolo chips are so spicy that you’ll find social media challenges of people recording their reaction to eating one of these boiling chips.

Here’s a viral YouTube video showcasing an individual doing this challenge:

EATING WORLD'S HOTTEST CHIP - JOLOCHIP LAST CHIP CHALLENGE MUKBANG | ONE CHIP CHALLENGE GONE WRONG

The Last Chip Challenge requires challengers to eat one of these extremely hot chips and tolerate the heat for at least five minutes without eating or drinking anything. This challenge is viral across India as Jolo Chips are an Indian-made product.

Although the Jolo Chip Challenge is prevalent in India, there’s no reason why heat lovers in the States can’t attempt it.

However, it’s advised that you attempt the chip challenge with extreme caution. These chips are so hot that each chip is individually packaged, and most challengers use gloves so they don’t directly touch the chip.

What Do Jolo Chips Taste Like?

While everyone knows how spicy and dangerous the Jolo chip is, rarely anyone ever talks about how it tastes.

A Jolo Chips’ taste can’t be pinpointed easily as the extreme heat from the chip tends to overpower any flavor the chip naturally imparts. These chips combine spicy peppers and top it with jalapeno seasoning, so you could say the actual flavor is jalapeno.

The only way to know how a Jolo chip tastes is to try one yourself, because there’s nothing to compare it to (except other extremely spicy chips). According to Flipkart, the product is made with corn, canola oil, edible activated charcoal powder, Carolina reaper, Trinidad scorpion, ghost pepper, jalapeno seasoning, iodized salt, calcium propionate, and sodium propionate.

If you watch the YouTube videos included in previous sections, you’ll see that these chips have the same shape and crunch as a regular tortilla chip. The difference is that Jolo chips have a dark color and appear almost black due to the charcoal powder added to them.

What Happens After Eating Jolo Chips?

Jolo Chips are made from some of the hottest peppers in the world, and it’s fair to say that these snacks aren’t for the faint of heart. If you’re planning to try the One Chip challenge, you may be wondering what will happen to you if you ate a Jolo chip.

After eating Jolo Chips you will likely experience a burning sensation in your mouth and through your entire body. In addition, some consumers report an inability to speak, teary eyes, and pain in the mouth. Several people have also reported a restless feeling after consuming a Jolo Chip.

Most people who have tried the Jolo chips on live video feeds on the internet advise others not to eat them, especially if you aren’t used to spicy foods. You should also avoid them when you have a cold or other nasal issues as the spice tends to affect the sinus, and it’s not unusual for someone’s eyes and nose to get runny after eating these chips.

Most people who have eaten these chips say that the effects of the chips last for at least 30 minutes after consumption. Some people throw up after eating these just to relieve the pain in their stomach from the peppers. And while there’s temporary relief, vomiting can even intensify the pain or burning sensation.

The Spice in Jolo Chips

Jolo Chips are made with the hottest and most potent chili peppers known to humankind. One of these notorious ingredients include the infamous Carolina Reaper.

The Carolina Reaper is a spice that has fascinated us for years with its intense heat. And the fact that it’s one of the ingredients in Jolo chips implies that this snack should be consumed only with extreme caution.

For starters, the Carolina Reaper is reportedly so strong that it’s essential to wear gloves before even touching this spice. So if you decide to try Jolo Chips (for whatever insane reason), consider keeping some gloves handy and put them on before you pick up the chip.

To give you an idea of how spicy the Carolina Reaper is, let’s look at something called the Scoville Scale. This measurement is used to determine the heat/spice levels of a particular ingredient, and the scores on a Carolina Reaper are incredibly high.

How high?

Well, cayenne pepper rates roughly between 30,000 and 50,000 units on the Scoville Scale, given the varieties there are across the world.

The Carolina Reaper? It rates a whopping 1,641,183 units on the Scoville scale!

So while you’re eating just one chip, remember that it’s packed with more heat than most taste buds can safely handle.

Besides the Carolina Reaper, Jolo also uses ghost pepper, which happens to be the second hottest pepper in the world. The ghost pepper has a Scoville Scale rating of about 1,001,304 units.

Ghost peppers are traditionally known as ‘Bhut Jolokia’ in India and are one of the most famous peppers across the globe. The word ‘Bhut’ literally translates to ‘an especially malevolent spirit,’ which is how these peppers derived their English name.

According to this article from Pepper Scale, compared to a jalapeno a ghost pepper can be almost four hundred times hotter on the Scoville scale. In fact, ghost peppers are so hot that they are often crushed and smeared on the walls of village houses to ward off elephants.

Conclusion

Jolo chips are made using the hottest peppers and spices in the world and are naturally one of the hottest chips in the world. While they were initially famous for the spice, their fame has expanded to include challenges on eating these extra spicy chips on video.

Although the Jolo Chip originated in Mexico, today they are primarily produced and made in India. And India’s knowledge and history in spices, along with their cultivation of the ghost pepper, makes Jolo Chips a perfect fit for the culture.
